Hey, You! Wanna Join a Ga(y)ng?

Writer: AdminAdmin

Studies have shown that bisexual (written as "bi+" in this article) individuals are often overlooked in both the straight and queer communities.

This would be a good time for me to give you facts about bisexuality, but the facts are depressing. The basis for much of the bisexual invisibility comes from people still believing that bi+ are going through a "phase" or picking which gender they are interested in. There is even a misconception that bisexuality is referring to liking only two genders (stereotypical male and female).

The same invisibility happens in books and writing, such as a character needing to choose between which gender they are attracted to. Or bisexuality is chalked up to a joke, like a character who sleeps around. For bi+ authors, it can be hard for their bi+ characters and identity to be taken seriously and for their stories to be fully explained.

However, I am not that person to do so. While I am bi+, I am not that knowledgeable, so I would like to present the Bi+ Book Gang.

Here's a blurb from the website:

Our mission is to build a community for bi+ writers through accountability and authentic connection. The bi+ book gang offers writers at every level the chance to find a space where their identities are validated and their writing is championed.

Here's a list of what I can tell you:

  • I'm part of a great community with supportive authors and readers. We follow each other on social media and pump each other up.

  • I'm at most accountability meetings every Wednesday.

  • I've made lifelong friends (see below).

I (left) meeting Lauren Devora (right) meeting for the first time. We were at a book festival.

Our growing global community takes pride in our work and each other. We are always looking for more members and to give support. As bi+, we are neither too gay or too straight to be somewhere, but we are doing our best in the world. As well as we want to give back.

This is your chance to join a (legal) gang and join the bisexual plus agenda!
